What should you tell us about your roof in Crawley?
Ifield includes traditional and modern housing, and your Crawley roof may also have changed over time. Tell us about extensions, replacement coverings or repairs you know about. A photograph of each section shows us the present materials, so we can explain which cleaning method we propose.

Do Crawley's new-town roofs need hand cleaning?
Not always: moss removal by hand suits concrete and clay tiles alike, and roof pressure washing is an option if the tiles turn out to be modern clay. Most of Crawley's new-town houses are typical 1950s public housing, including terraces and semi-detached pairs with pitched tiled roofs, and from the 1960s the pitches grew lower. Older Hazelwick Road, built out between 1895 and 1906, has mostly plain clay tile roofs, with bay window roofs typically of slate or red tile.
If you are unsure whether your tiles are concrete or clay, send us a close photograph of one.
| Type of home | Share of households |
|---|---|
| Detached | 14.2% |
| Semi-detached | 22.6% |
| Terraced | 37.0% |
| Flat or maisonette | 26.1% |
| Caravan or mobile home | 0.0% |
Is moss likelier on Crawley roofs near Tilgate Park?
Yes, for houses close to its trees, because moss tends to settle where trees stand near a roof and leave it shady and damp, and the Forestfield estate in Furnace Green lies directly next to Tilgate Park. The park and neighbouring Tilgate Forest together make up the largest green space on Crawley's edge, much of it woodland.
Should a tree overhang your house, photograph the gutter and the roof slope beneath it and send both with your quote request.
Which cleaning method suits your roof?
Your roof can be cleaned by Moss Men Surrey using manual moss removal or roof pressure washing (hot, low-pressure steam). The team checks your roof covering, its condition and access before recommending either method.
| Service | Which roofs it suits | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Manual moss removal | Manual moss removal suits concrete tiles, clay tiles and natural slate. The covering and its condition decide whether scraping is right for your roof; product-specific manufacturer advice can rule it out. | From £599. |
| Roof pressure washing | Roof pressure washing suits natural slate and modern clay tiles, once the team has checked the covering, its condition, access and the manufacturer's guidance. | Starts at around £750, depending on the roof; written quote within 24 hours. |
What does manual moss removal include?
Manual moss removal comes from £599, gutter clearing and Pureseal Bac Clear Pro included, with a three-year moss-free guarantee.
The biocide is the treatment we apply after removing moss.
Ridge tiles, hip tiles, valleys, verges and gutters are checked on every roof. Ridges are the top joins, hips are the sloping joins, and verges are the roof edges.
If our team damages your roof while cleaning, the repairs are included. Existing defects are considered separately when the team looks at your roof.
Artificial slate can look worse after cleaning. We discuss that risk with you before any work.
We never cold call; we check for nesting birds and bats first and stop if we find them; we check cement slates for asbestos before any work.
