Dave has cleaned roofs since 2004, and he and his sons would clean an Ashford roof of slate or clay tile.
What should you tell us about your roof in Ashford?
Around Ashford's Fordbridge Park, as elsewhere in the town, you may have trees close to your home. If branches overhang your roof, show us the affected slope and gutter from the ground. Your photographs let us quote for moss removal, gutter clearing and access together.

What cleaning suits Ashford's suburban roofs?
It depends on the covering: natural slate can take the hand scrape or roof pressure washing, clay or concrete tiles take the scrape, and steam reaches tiles only when they are modern clay. Older houses on record show both coverings: an early 19th-century cottage on Ashford Road has a slated hipped roof, an 1886 house on Feltham Hill Road is roofed in slate, and late 19th-century almshouses on the same road have clay tiles.
Most of Ashford's homes are detached or semi-detached houses built between 1885 and 1960; if yours is one of them, send a photo of the roof so we can identify the tiles.
| Type of home | Share of households |
|---|---|
| Detached | 20.3% |
| Semi-detached | 39.1% |
| Terraced | 13.4% |
| Flat or maisonette | 27.1% |
| Caravan or mobile home | 0.1% |
Does an Ashford roof need trees nearby to grow moss?
No: a north-facing slope that stays damp for longer can attract moss as well, and trees close by add shade and damp. Around Ashford, the trees of the flat River Ash floodplain stand mainly by the lakes and a golf course, and the floodplain has no large woods.
Tell us which way your main roof slope faces, or send a photo of the side that gets the least sun.
Which cleaning method suits your roof?
Your roof can be cleaned by Moss Men Surrey using manual moss removal or roof pressure washing (hot, low-pressure steam). The team checks your roof covering, its condition and access before recommending either method.
| Service | Which roofs it suits | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Manual moss removal | Manual moss removal suits concrete tiles, clay tiles and natural slate. The covering and its condition decide whether scraping is right for your roof; product-specific manufacturer advice can rule it out. | From £599. |
| Roof pressure washing | Roof pressure washing suits natural slate and modern clay tiles, once the team has checked the covering, its condition, access and the manufacturer's guidance. | Starts at around £750, depending on the roof; written quote within 24 hours. |
What does manual moss removal include?
The hand method comes with cleared gutters, a Pureseal Bac Clear Pro treatment and a three-year moss-free guarantee, priced from £599.
The biocide is the treatment we apply after removing moss.
Ridge tiles, hip tiles, valleys, verges and gutters are checked on every roof. Ridges are the top joins, hips are the sloping joins, and verges are the roof edges.
If our team damages your roof while cleaning, the repairs are included. Existing defects are considered separately when the team looks at your roof.
Artificial slate can look worse after cleaning. We discuss that risk with you before any work.
We never cold call; we check for nesting birds and bats first and stop if we find them; we check cement slates for asbestos before any work.

David and his team did a great job.
Good communication and he was happy to adjust dates to suit us. Quotation was very competitive and they took down some unwanted satellite dishes at no extra charge.
The house looks much better as a result of their work and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them.Read Roger Smith's review on Google -
We were so impressed with the Moss men. First of all they were so nice, on time, professional and knowledgeable. We had them clean our roofs and gutters- which was done extremely well, quickly and they cleaned everything up afterwards. I have recommended them
To all my neighbours and would highly recommend them to anyone else. And the best part was that they provided the best of the 3 quotes we received. ( I just reread this and while it sounds like an ad- it’s really not. They were great).Read Sue O'Regan's review on Google -
Excellent. Came very quickly to quote and didn’t have to wait long for the job to be scheduled. On the day they did a great job of clearing the roof of years of moss. Obv this creates loads of mess all around and they very efficiently cleared it all up including where it had blown onto the neighbour’s. I’d use again and highly recommend.
