Moss removed by hand from a brown tile roof in Midhurst

Moss grew in clumps along the lower edge of every tile row on the slope beside the ridge. The before photograph shows it across the whole of that slope.

Dave records this job as manual moss removal. After the moss comes off by hand, Moss Men spray a biocide, Pureseal Bac Clear Pro, at about garden-hose pressure. In the after photograph a roof ladder is hooked over the ridge, and the hose lies across the slope beside a darker, wet band where the biocide is going on.

The before photograph looks along the slope from the ridge, with moss sitting in each row. The after photograph was taken further along the same roof, so compare the tile rows rather than the framing. Its darker, wet band along the top, beside the hose, is biocide going on; the rest shows the tile rows without moss clumps.

On the day of the after photograph, the tile rows in view were clear of moss clumps, with biocide still going on along the top. Some staining and pale lichen spots remain on the tiles, and the photographs cannot show how the roof looked in the months that followed.

Dave says two neighbours had their roofs done after seeing the result.
